Self-Awareness is an Awesome thing! It's amazing the Goodies we can receive from all sorts of places. I'm reading a book authored by a former FBI Agent, Joe Navarro "What Every Body Is Saying". In it, he talks about "Situational Awareness". Situational Awareness is being aware of those subtleties...those things we have connection/contact with yet go unobserved.
During my walk today, I was doing my "Cleaning". A Wonderful practice I just learned recently. My mind took me to a recent situation, where I had a thought and before 'reacting' (deciding it was a racial issue), I decided to clean that thought. Continuing with that thought, I remembered when I was a teen. I was in a major department store. I was waiting for the sales clerk to acknowledge me. She didn't. What she did was give attention to a caucasian woman that had just come up to the counter. I immediately addressed that sales clerk with, "I know you see me. it is too light up in here and I am too dark for you not to see me!". That was clearly a racial event.
A Situational Awareness self-awareness: When that Youngman didn't acknowledge me, the memory and emotion in my Limbic System (which is called the dinosaur brain - it remembers EVERY EMOTION we've ever had - Pleasure & Pain) came to the fore, thus the almost 'reaction' to an occurrence of the past.
WOW!!! By "Cleaning" my thought, I wonder if I modified, or adjusted the memory to begin to serve me better? Cool stuff!!!
